Application Support Guidelines

Which applications can be managed with Pckgr?

Application Support Guidelines at Pckgr

At Pckgr, we offer powerful, flexible tools to package and deploy a wide variety of applications through Microsoft Intune. While we support a broad range of apps via our hosted repository and custom application packaging, there are some application types that are best handled outside of Pckgr due to their unique structures or delivery methods.

This guide outlines how Pckgr supports application deployment and provides helpful context for apps that may fall outside our platform’s packaging processes.

Standard Applications

These are common business applications that are hosted in Pckgr's Private Repository. They are packaged, tested, and maintained by the Pckgr team, ensuring secure and reliable deployment. First preference is to deploy your applications from this library and fully rely on Pckgr to manage your updates moving forward.

You can request additional applications to be added via the Request App feature in your dashboard.

Custom Applications

For applications that aren’t in the standard library—such as internal company applications, licensed apps that require manual downloads, or complex installation workflows—you can use the Custom Applications tool. This tool allows users to bring their own applications for packaging and deploy them from the Application Library, directly to their tenants.

For a step-by-step example of how to package applications such as Autodesk DWG TrueView, read our Blog post.

Microsoft 365 Office Apps

You can deploy and automate the updates for the full Microsoft Office suite using a configuration XML hosted in Azure Blob Storage and the Office Deployment Tool. This is ideal for customizing installations and supporting Autopilot scenarios.

Microsoft Add-ons (Visio, Project)

Visio and Project (Plan 2, Plan 3, etc.) can be deployed independently using the same XML and Office Deployment Tool method via the Custom Applications feature.

Unsupported Application Types

Microsoft Web-Based Services

Apps such as Microsoft Planner and Project for the Web are browser-based and managed via user licensing. These cannot be installed on a device and therefore cannot be deployed or managed via Pckgr.

Portable Applications

Applications that run without installation (e.g., from a standalone .exe file) and do not leave system-level installation markers are not supported, as they cannot be reliably tracked or updated through Intune.
