Repositories

This page explains what a repository is and how Pckgr uses them to offer applications for deployment.

What is a Repository?

A repository is a storage location where applications are kept, managed, and retrieved for deployment. Pckgr uses repositories as the source for installing, updating, and managing applications in Microsoft Intune.

Repositories play a critical role in software deployment by ensuring applications are secure, up-to-date, and easily accessible.

In Pckgr, you can choose Windows or Mac applications for deployment and management:

  • Private Repository – Hosted and managed directly by Pckgr for reliability and control for your Windows applications.

  • MacOS Repository – Uses Installomator to deploy Mac applications through Intune.

Prior to May 2025, Pckgr also implemented a Winget Repository hosting service for application management. Since this time, Pckgr has transitioned to offering solely our Premium Private Repository for your application hosting needs. The Private Repository is preferred over public sources like Winget because it offers greater stability, reduced external points of failure, and ensures applications are always available when needed. For a more detailed explanation, see our Private Repository documentation.

If you joined Pckgr prior to May 2025, you can upgrade your applications to the Private Repository version, following the instructions in our Upgrade Applications page.
