This guide provides an overview of the various options available when you enable the Advanced Installer Option. This allows you to easily configure and execute software installations, uninstallations, and repairs.
When you deploy an application from Pckgr, you'll be presented with an option to enable the Advanced Installer functions using the slider.
Here's a rundown of the main options and what they do:
Install Method: Choose from the following installation methods:
Silent - Installs the application without any deferral options (any applications specified to be closed will close automatically)
Allow Defer - Prompts the user with an option to defer the installation.
Allow Defer (Close Apps) - Prompts the user with an option to defer only if a specified application is open.
Defer Count: Sets the number of times a user can defer the installation before the install is forced (only applies when Allow Defer or Allow Defer (Close Apps) is enabled)
Apps to Close: List any applications that should be closed before the installation starts (separated by a comma E.G chrome, firefox).
Restart for Prompt: Choose whether to prompt for a system restart after installation.
Remove Shortcut: Select this to remove any desktop shortcuts created by the installation.
Desktop Shortcut Name (if removing): Specify the name of the shortcut to be removed. Currently the scripts is only able to delete from the public desktop so this might not work for all applications.
We recommend only using the Advanced Installer options when required to enhance the end user experience.
This feature is currently in Beta, we do recommend testing your configured settings before going to production so you have a clear idea of what the end user will see.
The Advanced Installer will only be available for selected applications while in Beta, this list will continue to grow with more testing.
In order to use the 'close application feature' you will need to source the application process name using task manager. The process name can also be found with Command Prompt or PowerShell.
If using the "Defer Prompt" option, we recommend hiding the Intune toast notifications for the application to prevent confusion with the end user. This is because if they choose to defer the installation Intune will flag it as a failed install and show a toast notification.
Be aware when assigning to device-based groups that installs can occur without the user being logged in. This means if you have set processes to be closed or device reboots it will happen without prompting the user. To avoid this please assign to user based groups.
0x8007EA6C - The user has deferred an update or installation.
0x80072711 - The user has denied the installation prompt.
